Do you want to contribute to the safety and security of your fellow citizens?

Working as a part-time firefighter, or Rescue Personnel on Standby (RIB) as it is also known, means that you have a main employment with an employer and work as a firefighter part-time with standby duty every fourth week. This means that you travel from your home or regular workplace when an alarm is raised and must be able to reach the fire station within 5 minutes.

Alarms can range from building fires and traffic accidents to drownings and medical emergencies. The job includes tasks aimed at preparing for rescue operations, such as participating in exercises every standby week, carrying out rescue operations, and evaluating and learning from incidents.

As a firefighter, you have the opportunity to make a real difference. In addition to saving lives, you create security and safety for many people in your community. You also enjoy the privilege of being part of a great team, valuable training, and fitness opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain standby status according to schedule or as needed.
  • Conduct exercises according to schedule.
  • Carry out rescue operations aimed at saving lives, property, and the environment, and participate in other types of emergencies, for example, while waiting for an ambulance.
  • Participate in workplace meetings and similar gatherings.

Training

Before you begin your service, you will undergo basic firefighter training as well as a firefighting and rescue training course. To drive heavy fire vehicles, a Class C driver's license is required. If you do not have one at the time of employment, the employer will assist with the training.

Employment Tests

As part of the recruitment process, employment tests will be conducted. These consist of a high-altitude test, swimming proficiency test, treadmill test, claustrophobia test, and a work-related course. We also conduct interviews in connection with the tests. This is followed by a medical examination including a work ECG.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for you who have an interest in people and enjoy helping others. You have good ability to work in a team, are stress-resistant, and practical. You are self-motivated, flexible, and resilient in challenging circumstances.

Requirements

You must have completed upper secondary education and hold at least a Class B driver's license.

To be a firefighter, you must meet certain physical and medical standards. You must therefore pass the treadmill test prior to employment and continue to pass the annual treadmill tests.

You must reside (live and work) within the designated area during your standby week. See area on wbrand.se/arbetamedoss.

Since a large part of your duties involves communication, good proficiency in the Swedish language, both spoken and written, is required.

Approval from Primary Employer

To be able to take time off to perform duties and participate in exercises, approval from your primary employer is needed, and sometimes you must apply for a side job according to your employer's routines.
